MUSIC COURSE 2021 – SCHIEDAM.

Schedule:

  • First workshop
  • Presentation of the course.  (15’) –       
  • Workshop (1 hour 30’) – Rhythm.

During this first workshop we will explain the different rhythmical figures, the difference between pulse and rhythm and the difference between downbeat and upbeat. 

After a theoretical explanation, students will create a simple percussion instrument, which will be used to play together with songs/musical pieces, placing the beat in the correct place, in the wrong place, inventing patterns…

Second Workshop

  • Guest (1 hour)
  • Break (15’)
  • Workshop (1 hour 30’) – Melody.

Melody will be worked out through:

Brief explanation of the order within a scale (name of the notes). How does the order of the intervals (tone-half tone) change when starting form different notes?

  • Intervals: intervals will be related to parts of musical pieces/songs. Same with scales (major/minor). 
  • Composition games – their own melody will be created. 

Third workshop

  • Guest (1 hour) 
  • Break (15’) 
  • Workshop (1 hour 30’) – Harmony. 

Harmony will be worked out through:

  • Explanation of the concept of chord (intervals in a melody-intervals in a chord)
  • Combinations of melodies and chords: “make them match”! 
  • Series of 3rds, series of 5ths. How does that changes the chord and the chord secuence respectively.

          Fourth workshop

  • Performance practice workshop (1 hour 30’)

The performance workshop consists in the following assignment:

The participants are divided in groups and need to create their own piece/performance using the tools given in the previous days. 

  • Break (15’)
  • Performance and end of the course. (1 hour)

Costs:

Each workshop is 27.50, this means that the cost of the course is 110.

Payment:

All the guests will be paid 30€ per hour.  

Target:

  • Teens between 12-15.
  • Basic English speaking/comprehension skills are required. (viola lecture will be in dutch, though)
